THANK YOU, Danilo, for your courage and your work! I think too, that Doctors have to say something about school for LC Kids. As member of the french LC children organization, I'm fighting for that!
Until kids attend a middle or upper school class, somehow cognitive issues are at least detected and schools have some tools to manage them thanks to previous experience with a wide range of other cognitive diseases. Unfortunately, if cognitive impairment continues at University, in that case due to the different relationship model students/teachers/institute, such diseases become totally unseen and loneliness becomes total.
My son can't go to school since months and something that help us very much is the association EHD in Belgium. This association exist since many years but is not well knowed. A free teacher come in our house 3 times a week to help our son to learn. And thanks to his school to not doubt about his illness and sharing with us homeworks he have to do.
A second tip: very often, in case of LC with mental health diseases in adolescents, hospital equipe suggestion is, among others, to change school. This is because very often social retirement and mental breakdown are linked to school environment issues and troubles for adolescents, and turning the page can be useful in such cases. This is not true for LC. The reason for social retirement and mental issues is not bad relationships or environment, is LC! And loosing grip with the previous friends and schoolmates, and having to start new relationships with young people who didn't know you"before" and see you as "troubled" or just "strange", does not help at all. Parents, please think thoroughly before you take this decision for your kids.
